Windy Season 2025-26

We got an early start to Windy Season this year with early cold fronts in October which unfortunately diminished in November but we are now back on track and I’m looking forward to a strong finish for 2025 and solid winds in 2026.

Normally this time of year I have some very specific goals that I’m working on but this year is a little different. For the last few years I’ve been focused on developing my Carve Gybe and the Foil Gybe. Both are working pretty well so this year my goal is simply more “time on the water” and my overall improvement.

One aspect of my goals has been to improve my equipment and this fall I have been testing/demoing Patrik AIO Foils to replace my older Starboard Evolution series of foils. (https://www.patrikinternational.com/en/shop/winging/aio-wing-foil-system/)

The Patrik AIO foils are amazing and after a very successful evaluation I purchased a set from North Beach Windsurfing and I couldn’t be more pleased. If you follow me on Facebook or are a member of the Tampa Bay Area Windsurfing FB group you may have seen my posts on these foils. Bottom line – better lift, faster, greater stability and much better performance in light and gusty winds. I recently tested my light wind setup in 6-9 knot winds and with a bit of effort I was consistently foiling and I even made a few foiling gybes!

I took my first windsurfing lesson nine years ago and at this point in my windsurfing life it is pretty obvious to me that Foiling will dominate my time on the water. I will be 65 in February and foiling is easier on the body and allows for more time on the water in both a single day and through out the year. I will fin sail in perfect conditions and in my favorite spots but most days I will be on the foil.

I hope y’all have a happy new year with consistent winds and flat water.
